The Life & World of Jesus: A Study Tour of Israel

Hosted by the Rev. Canon Paul & Robin Jagoe

November 20th-December 3rd

Paul is the Pastor of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Orlando Florida

Stay on the Sea of Galilee, Visit Jesus Childhood home of Nazareth and his ministry home of Capernaum. Tour the old city of Caesarea, Stand on Mt Carmel where Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal. Follow the Jordan down to the Dead Sea, Explore Qumran and Masada. Stay at Christ Church Jerusalem and discover the ancient city. Stand where Jesus stood. See where he carried out his life and ministry.

We will trace the life of Jesus from Jerusalem to his home in Galilee, giving particular attention to the influence of Jewish thought and culture of the period on the origins of Christianity. Our goal is a better understanding of Jesus’ ministry, his place among the Jewish people, and the application of his teachings for today.

A trip to Israel is more that a vacation. It is a pilgrimage in the oldest sense of the word.

It is definitely worth your investment: time, money, energy.

Q & A

Q: First, why go at all?

A: It will change your life. It will be an investment in your faith that will reap benefits every time you open a Bible, listen to a sermon, turn on the news, or engage in a discussion on international relations.

I have booked the best airline schedule, the best guide, the best accommodations, and the best itinerary you can ask for. It will be a trip you will not want to miss.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: The entire trip will cost $3,227. That includes airfare to and from Orlando, travel in Israel, double-occupancy in all hotels, all meals except lunches, entrance to those sites we visit as a group, and the fees for the guide. It does not cover lunches, meals in the airport, entrance fees to those sites you may visit on your own, and gifts and extras you buy.

Q: Isn’t $3,227 a lot of money for a "vacation"?

A: Certainly one could spend less on a 14-day "vacation", but this is not a vacation. It is a pilgrimage, and I mean that in the classic sense of that word. There is an old saying that a week in Israel is worth a year in seminary, and that is truly true. While vacations are sometimes memorable, they are rarely life-changing. I promise you that a trip to Israel will change your life.

It is no small tragedy that travel to the Holy Land has never been easier for Western Christians. Yet so few are willing to go. Until very recently in history, a trip to Israel from England or Europe, let alone America, was arduous, dangerous and extremely expensive by today’s standards. Yet, generations of men and women braved the hardships of hard ships and camel caravans to walk where Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus walked.

Q:  I’ve seen ads for cheaper trips than yours. Why is your trip expensive?

A: You get what you pay for. I could have structured the trip to be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper by flying stand-by through Bolivia, overnighting in Iraq, making the group hitch-hike instead of taking a bus, getting a guide who didn't speak English, etc. Trust me; by the end of the trip you’ll be glad you spent the money.

Q: What are the flight arrangements?

A: All flights will be on Continental. We will fly from Orlando to Newark on Saturday ,November 20th, then non-stop from Newark to Tel-Aviv, arriving Sunday Morning, Israel time. We will leave Tel-Aviv Wednesday evening, December 1st and fly non-stop to Newark and then to Orlando, arriving home Thursday, December 2, before noon.

Q: Can I bring a friend?

A: Of course! The more the merrier. Please pass on this information to others who might be interested.

Q: If I am traveling alone, will I have to room with someone?

A: No, but the price of the trip is figured on double-occupancy. If you really want to be alone, you can pay an additional $400 to get a private room. On the other hand, we can try to match you up with another single and then you won't have to pay the extra fee. It's your call.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Every country has places that are perfectly safe and places to avoid. Israel is the same way. There are places that are safe (the places we go) and there are places that are relatively unsafe (the places we avoid). It is safe enough that we are taking any of our kids who can go and our grand-dogs (okay, the dogs stay). And as the saying goes, the safest place to be in the world is in the middle of God’s will. And just to note. We would NOT go if we felt it was unsafe.

Q: Are there advantages to going with Paul and Robin?

A: It helps to go with someone who has been before and can guide the group through the ropes.  And who could be any better to be on a bus with than Paul and Robin…(especially Robin.)

Q: I’ve got some serious financial constraints now. Wouldn’t it be better to wait until I’m retired and the kids are on their own?

A: The lament heard most often from older travelers is that they wish they had made the trip when they were younger and could (a) move around more easily, (b) have this experience as a background to their lives of faith, (c) have time to go back again (and again?!). There’s a sense in which you’ll never have enough time or enough money to make the pilgrimage without some sacrifice. But that is part of what makes the trip worthwhile. I will say from my own experiences, it is worth the sacrifices.

Q.  What about travel insurance?

A: You are required to buy travel insurance to cover medical expenses and medical evacuation.  This also covers trip cancellation and lost baggage.  Please Contact MTS travel for the cost.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: The best way is to contact Trinda Lim (our travel agent) at MTS Travel
